NEW YORK STATE'S OLDEST U-PICK ORCHARD

Blessing of the Trees

Blessing of the Trees

We will be giving thanks to some of our oldest trees—some over 100 years old—for their many years of service on this earth. Many of these trees are beyond repair (or grafting) and must be cut down. Before we do, let us give thanks.

About the Event

Pastor Jerry McKinney from the United Church of Granville and other local faith leaders will be helping us with this blessing. The ceremony will be 15-20 minute long and then we'll have a bonfire and hot mulled cider. If you have been coming to Hicks for many years, we especially hope you will attend. Bring an old photo of the orchard or write down a "mini-eulogy" on a postcard-sized paper and bring with you. This event is free and open to all. Children are welcome and may draw a picture of "thanks" if they wish. If you cannot attend, but would like to write a mini-eulogy, or share an old photo, please email it to me at davidgarvoille@gmail.com by Friday, Jan. 15th. We will display your photos and postcards on a community bulletin board in the barn store for the next 4 weeks.
